Area Map

Located amid the gently rolling hills of Hunterdon County along the South Branch of the Raritan River, Clinton Township encompasses 39-square-miles which encircle Lebanon Borough and border High Bridge and the townships of Franklin, Union, Lebanon, Tewksbury, Readington and Raritan. The township includes the rural hamlets of Annandale, Allerton, Readingsburg and part of Cokesbury.

Clinton's charming Victorian-era village attracts visitors and locals with its historic shopping area, flowering cherry tree-lined streets and scenic river and waterfall views. The antique truss bridge constructed in 1870 crosses the South Branch of the Raritan River and overlooks a 200-foot wide waterfall separating two old grist mills: Clinton's landmark Red Mill, home of the Hunterdon Historical Museum, and the Stone Mill, which houses the Hunterdon Museum of Art.

Often described as a quintessential American small town, Clinton has drawn the attention of Hollywood stars and movie producers over the years. Scenes from In and Out with Kevin Kline, One True Thing with Renée Zellweger and Meryl Streep, My Giant with Billy Crystal and Turbulence with Ray Liotta have all been shot in Clinton.

Community Life

An ever-changing social calendar in Clinton Township includes special events like a Spring Egg Hunt, Community Day in April, a Food Truck Festival, an active summer recreation program for school-age children, a Junior Olympics in September and a Haunted Playground around Halloween. The Clinton Recreation Department also offers extensive courses and sports programs for children and adults.

Education

The Clinton Township School District serves local students from pre-k through grade 8. Students are spread among four schools in the district, which are Spruce Run Elementary School (pre-K), Patrick McGaheran School (K-2), Round Valley School (grades 3-5) and Clinton Township Middle School (grades 6-8). The district's goal is to "develop and enhance each child's interests and characteristics to embody the philosophy of: Take care of yourself, take care of others and the environment and become productive citizens."

Students in grades 9 through 12 attend North Hunterdon High School in Annandale, part of the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District. North Hunterdon High School also serves students from the Town of Clinton, Bethlehem Township, Franklin Township, Lebanon Borough and Union Township.

Transportation

Spruce Run Recreation Area on Van Syckel's Road straddles Clinton Township and Union Township, and offers boating, sailing, fishing, camping, swimming and beaching on the 1,290 acre resevoir with 15 miles of shoreline.

Round Valley Recreation Area on Lebanon-Stanton Road offers wilderness camping, beaches, hiking trails plus swimming, fishing and boating in the sparkling 2,000-acre reservoir. The reservoir contains lake trout, bas, pickerel, catfish, American eel, yellow perch, brown trout and rainbow trout, making it a favorite spot for anglers.

Fun Fact
After Round Valley was filled with water in the 1960s, the resulting Round Valley Reservoir created New Jersey's second-deepest man-made body of fresh water, at 180 feet.
